Looking for help with a Remington 1900

Post by Josh1900 »

Hello I'm new to the forum. I'd like to ask a couple of questions about a 1900 model that my grandfather owned before he passed.
I have a few questions and I'll put them here
What "grade" is it and what do the markings on the barrels mean?
Does someone have a forend and stock I can purchase ?
I apologize about my terrible picture taking skills lol
Thanks in advance !

Your 1900 or K grade (347504) was made in 1904. The K grade was offered in four versions.

K - Remington steel barrels and extractors
KE - Remington steel barrels and ejectors
KD - Damascus barrels and extractors
KED - Damascus barrels and ejectors

Yours is apparently stamped KE. The meaning of most of the other stampings are lost to the mist of time.

I don't see the forearm iron which contains all the ejector components. It's also needed to cock the gun.

The wood and parts can be found on eBay and other sites. Semi-inletted wood is also available if you feel like finishing it yourself.

One other point - the degree of choke is found stamped on the barrels lugs although it appears from the picture that the barrels may have been cut. What is the length?

Honestly I've hady questions on if it was cut on or not. I took some up close pictures of the ends of the barrels.
I measured the barrels at ( 15" 1/8th ).
This one's been sent through the ringer with lots of pitting and All of the original finish is gone from what I can tell.
I took some pictures of the measurements!
I really appreciate the information. I'm still a bit confused on the what part is missing on the forend. Is it 2 pieces of metal inside the forend and it snaps on the gun itself?

As I thought - the barrels have been cut. At 15" it doesn't meet the legal standard of 18" minimum.

Most 1900s have 28 - 30" barrels although I seem to recall that a 26" barrel was available. Of course Remington would build a gun to order.

A good utube video from Midway shows repairs to a fore end.
