I'm confused.

Post by KL-Moore »

I apologize for perhaps being dense but I have a couple of questions on dating my rifles.

I understand that the letters on the barrel of "blackpowder" indicate the year of manufacture. For example I have a 700 chambered in 7-08 which has a detachable box magazine and no stamping of letters on the barrel. It just has a serial number. The serial number is D6599613. Does that mean it was manufactured in 1957 or 1983?

I also have a .22-250 which has an "R" on the barrel but on the barrel near the receiver and behind the "R" are the numbers "45." Does that mean it was rebarreled at some point?

Can you provide me your email address please? I can send you a chart and breakdown of the barrel date code to help identify barrel date system.
