The barrel, trigger guard & frame on my NMA is marked with serial # 6252X along with inspection marks, could you tell me what year it was made ?
Are there any books available that cover the manufacture & assembly methods Remington & Sons used on their Civil War firearms ?
Thank you,
Chuck

Re: 1858 NMA date of mfg. question
Hi Chuck,
Your gun, 6252x was made in March of 1864. There are no books specifically about the manufacture and assembly of Remington products. A few books briefly touch on this, but the "Bible" of Large Frame Revolvers is: "Remington Army - Navy Revolvers, 1861-1888" by Don Ware. If you have a specific question, someone here may have an answer.
