Hello,

I inherited a 1858 Rem .31 pocket revolver SN 22374 and would love to know more about it.

Thanks,

Hi Williego,

Because the serial number is so high, it should be a New Model Pocket Revolver. They were made from 1863 to 1873 or 74 as percussion guns. After that, they were made as .32 rf revolvers. Yours should have an iron frame and an iron trigger guard, and it looks a lot like a miniature New Model Army Revolver. It should, since it is a scaled down New Model Army.
Enjoy your heirloom,
Daniel

Hello,

aardq (Daniel) thankyou so much for your response. The gun does not have a trigger guard, I have tried to attach a pic.
Do you know if there are any sites where I can plug in the serial number and get some history on the gun?

Regards,

Hi Willego,

Since there are no records of gun purchases for civilian sales, so there is no way to know who has owned this gun in the past. You can get a name or two by backtracking, Ask the people that you got the gun from, the name of the owner, and if there is any oral history of the gun. Other than that, there is no way to know any history of the gun.

I didn't have any luck posting a pic, but do an internet search for New Model Pocket Revolver, and you'll get several hits with pic.
