Remington model 721-D grade in 270 win

Post by 54bullseye »

I know I have been posting a lot lately but this will be the last for a while !! I do paving for 8 to 9 months a year so not a lot of time for gun stuff when weather is good. Now weather is bad and my gun safes are getting opened and everything is being wiped down !! Hence all posts !!

Here is a beautiful model 721-D in 270 win Serial # 64205 with a date code of OUU July 1949 date code marked on bottom of barrel. Only second one I have actually seen. Gene Myszkowski Remington's engraving expert looked this one up and found it to have been done by Robert Runge in 1949 and it took him 4.5 hours !! Gene said there were 7-D grades, 4-F grades and 2 gold inlaid model 721s in the whole run of that model. I took the stock and action apart and found the serial # 64205 marked in a few places ! It was stamped on receiver, on bolt, under butt plate, under trigger/floor plate and stock was also marked with both serial number and with a "B" I imagine the grade of wood !

The engraving is beautifully done and the stock is a nice piece of wood with nice hand done checking and has a nice fore end cap and Remington pistol grip cap. I really love the 721s 722s 725s and early 700s and this is now one of my favorites !!! Hope you all like it !!
Thanks for looking ! John Taylor

O UU is the month I was born in. Wish I had that 270. Also an OUU 722 257 Roberts. The 257 would pinpoint the day.

I have never even seen an E or F grade 721 or 722. I have a few B grades and a real nice 722 in 222rem that's got nice factory checkering but no high grades. John Taylor
