I have a Remington Belt Model which have what looks like military inspector marks on the inside of the grip and on the trigger guard. This trigger guard has the same number as the frame and barrel of the gun.
So, could someone please tell me if this model ever had a military contract ? Thanks.

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model
Hi Patbar,
I'm not familiar with the contracts, so I can't comment on that, but if it was bought on a US contract there should be more inspector's marks. There should be a mark on the frame exterior, cylinder, the bbl, and the trigger guard. The initial on the inside is probably a factory mark of unknown use. The initial on the trigger guard looks like an inspector's mark, but I have no idea why it is there if there are no other marks.
Just an FYI, A study has been done on the Belt serials, and the SAs and DAs were numbered together, the total production is just over 10,000, not any of the other various estimates that are out there.
Enjoy your new pistol,
Daniel

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model
Thanks, Daniel.
A friend of mine also has a Belt SA model with a serial number no more than 200 units from mine, and it has the same letters stamped at the same places.

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model
Hi Patbar,
Those same markings would lead me to believe that they were in house inspection marks. The Gov inspectors stamped their mark on all the major parts.
We'll probably never know unless some kind of factory records turn up.

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model
Hi Patbar,
Is the Remington marking on the BBL in 2 lines, or 3 lines, and if 3 lines, what patent date is used, 1858, or 1863?
Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model
Hi Daniel,
The marking on the barrel was in 3 lines (only the "L" of "new model" is still visible on this third line) and the patent date 1858 (see photo below).
Thanks for your help
Patrick
