I have been given a model 14 1/2 it needs a part that I can't identify

That is a "cartridge stop" specifically for the Model 14-1/2. You can get a spot on replacement from "Wisners". I have purchased several of their after-market stops for the 14-1/2 and every one worked perfectly.

I should have added this to my first reply and that is "if" the "stop" is in that condition then something else is amiss. I believe this to be just the beginning of your problems with this rifle. Parts for the 14-1/2 are hard to find and finding them in good usable condition is even more difficult.

Wisner's "stop" is one part that will work, they are on the internet, and are good people to work with.
