Early Rem. 760 scope mount

Post by cthraen »

I have an early model 760, serial #96xx. This early model is not tapped for a scope rail on the receiver bridge. It is tapped for a scope mount on the side. I would like to identify the scope mount from the hole pattern and spacing if possible. If you recognize the mount that would match this pattern please let me know. Thanks.

I've looked high and low and come up with nothing as well. Too bad as its such a low serial numbered gun. Just wanted you to know your post hasn't gone unnoticed.

I also have an early Remington model 760 Gamemaster in 35 Remington. It is identical to yours in pattern and the additional Lyman peep sight. Mine was made in 1953. I am currently searching for a compatible side mount as you are to fit my pattern. There is a company that deals with vintage optics and mounts from Montana called:
vintagegunscopes.com
I sent pics of my receiver and am waiting for response. They have a treasure trove of vintage mounts and optics. I will keep you posted! Image

I have a 1953 760 and it isn't drilled/tapped at all. It looks like yours has been drilled and tapped for a side mount and the receiver sight. I found one from Lyman that is shown with a receiver sight installed in a 1963 Shooters Bible. The part number is SM 760-740.
You might check Ebay

Hope this helps,

Mike
