Don,
I'm positive this is a cut down Remington Carbine not done by the factory. Someone heated the tangs and bent them for a pistol grip. Then made the grips and fore end.
The barrel may be the cut original or a replacement. What is the caliber?
I had a Model #4 Rolling Block that was modified the same way.
I'm sure there are others who can tell you which carbine this was made from.

ChuckD,
I was told by a local dealer/pawn shop that it was most likely a .45 colt. I plan on taking it to a gun shop and having them make sure that's correct and make sure its safe to shoot. The barrel is somewhat loose, can twist it side to side a hair. Thank you for your insight.

Agree with Chuck, a cut down carbine. It will be interesting to find out what caliber it is.
