I believe that one of my Remington 700's is a Classic chambered in 7mm-08. The reason that I say believe to be is because: the stock is the same as a Classic, the rifle has the drop floor plate feature, and the bluing is blue (not satin). I understand that the Classic in the 7mm-08 chambering was only in production in 2001. The mystery is that the rifle does not have the typical Remington barrel code dating. This is the only Remington rifle that I own that does not have barrel code dating. The serial number is: E67268XX
My question(s): Is my rifle a Remington 700 Classic or was it made up in the custom shop. Is it common for limited production Remington 700 Classic rifles not to have barrel code dating. In what year was my rifle most likely produced.

Re: Remington 700 Classic chambered in 7mm-08
I heard that for a period of time starting in 1999 I believe, Remington stopped marking the barrel with the assembly date. I forget where I came up with this info, but believe it was from the local gun store clerks. They have since changed policy and returned to doing so.

Dah, how did I miss that one. Your answer is right on target. I just checked the barrel dating code on Remington's official website.
It reads:
On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.
So my Remington 700 Classic chambered in 7mm-08 is correct for the limited production run in 2001.
