1875 Remington 10ga grade help needed!!!

Post by Doublegun1 »

Gentlemen, I am brand new to this forum. I signed up as I love the old doubles and I need help with my first Remington. I found this at a local flea market. I did as much research as I could but I am still stumped on the grade. There is not a lot of information or visual resources for me to determine what I have. I hopefully have attached a few photos of the gun. it is very nice except for one nick by the grip. The serial number is 1901 and the barrels are 30" in length. The chokes are modified and full. If you need more pics let me know. Thank You for any help!!

I almost forgot there is a "5" stamped on the water table directly above the serial number oriented the same direction. Some guns use this spot for the grade, thought this may help.

OK, I will reply to my own post!! What happened is that I went and purchased the Charles Semmer book and here is what I found out. The gun I have is definately an 1875 whitmore lifter. It is also a grade 4. I used the book to do comparisons as most of the grades are pictured in the book. Now I also read that most of the the 1875 guns were lower grades so where does this place my grade 4. Am I to assume this makes it quite rare? If so do I take the price shown in the gun values as law or as a starting point? Any help on value is appreciated.
Thanks!!
