Remington Rider D/A with Fluted Cylinder?

Post by TominRiverside »

Hi folks, been away from the Forum for a while, but have a new question.

Flayderman says (5E-026) that the “Remington-Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolver,” with a "fluted" cylinder, is one of the “earliest production” models, with only “a few hundred produced” and that it would have an early barrel marking of “MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS, ILION, N.Y. / ” RIDER’S PT. AUG. 17, 1858, MAY 3, 1859,” (circa 1863).

I have acquired one of these with the single-digit serial number of "5" which seems all original but carelessly stored, and I wonder if anybody knows (or has read about) an existing Remington-Rider Double Action “fluted cylinder” model with a lower serial number?

If so, what is that serial number? Also how many single-digit models with “fluted cylinders,” still in their orignal configuration, i.e., not modified, are known of? Thanks, Tom
