Remington O/U derringer mainspring replacement question

Post by Skyking »

Howdy,
I took my Rem derringer apart for a thorough clean and lube. I can't seem to get the mainspring in place so as to put it's retaining screw in  . Does it require some sort of special tool? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks y'all,
Larry

I figured it out for myself. It was a two step process, starting with the spring in the frame and hooked into the stirrup. Then levered down on top of the spring with a screw driver to line up the holes, and get the screw started. Then with a needle nose vice grip, and leather pad on the flat of the spring; I was able to get the spring flat, tight against the frame, and turn the screw into full tighten. Released the pliers, and then replaced the firing pin ratchet spring, and then the grips. Yahoo!
Thanks anyways y'all.
