1911 made in 1918 or 1919

Post by zman123 »

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a Remington 1911 pistol made in 1918 or 1919. I have done some research and confirmed the date by the inspector stamp (EEC) Indicating Edward E Chapman who inspected pistols 1-21676 in 1918 and 1919. It has no serial# or US govt. markings and does not appear to have been altered in any way. ( I looked very closely with a powerful magnifying glass) I also know that serial numbers were not required by law until the 1968 Firearms Control Act. Although most had them. since this is a very early gun is it possible to have been manufactured without a serial number? The gun is blued and not parkerized, could this gun have been a commercial model or pre production gun?

Anything is possible, but I would suspect that someone ground off the number. Have it xrayed and see if there is anything left of a number. I know of a case where this happened and it showed up on a xray.
