History of my Remington Sportman 48

Post by C Bogowitz »

Can any of you shed some light on a 20 gauge Remington Sportman 48 shotgun that was apparently sold by jc higgins (Sears)? I inherited this piece a short time ago and wonder at it's history. It's a 3-shot with a jc higgins buttplate. The stock is in mint condition, as is the barrel interior (no oxidation/rust) because my uncle kept good care of all of his rifles in a special humidified room. It also has an output modifier(?) that can be controlled for diiferent shooting conditions. I know squat about rifles.

Any info on this shotgun (history, worth) will be very much appreciated.

I have the 12 gauge and the 28 gauge version of the very same gun. Both of mine came in the style you described and both my of mine look identical. I did get my guns seperately. I had no idea that they came with the choke aready installed or from sears. Both of my guns do show some age (blue is a little flat in color), and a little wear from use. Thanks for shedding some light.
