Date of Mfg

Post by ttepee »

Hello everyone. I just picked up a mod 700 BDL in 7mm rem mag. I am interested in the date of mfg for this rifle. On the barrel there are two proof markings i guess you would call them, and next to the markings it is stamped 83. On the receiver the serial is B6703XXX. I had noticed in this forum there is a post that shows which letters on the serial number relates to certain dates. Problem is there are no letters on the barrel, only the number 83, and only the serial number on the receiver.

Any help would be welcome

I need to look at the other marks with a magnifying glass, I cant read them with the old eyes. To answer the other question, no I have not removed the stock, the date codes are on the barrel.

Well guys, after closer inspection of the markings on the barrel, it appears to a spade stamped in the steel, the other marking I cant make out. It looks kinda like a tooling mark. The spade looking mark has a rounded bottom. and the top of the spade looks as if the stamp didnt make a complete mark. It kind of looks like a cross between a spade and a club. like on playing cards.

Thanks for the info, I knew when I bought it that it wasnt a collectors item. Rifle is about 90% and it came with a leupold VX II 3X9 for 350.00 US
