7400 loading question

Post by half-cocked »

I have a question for the Remington 7400 experts out there.

According to the 7400 owner's manual, the recommended loading procedure is to insert an empty magazine, pull back the charging handle locking it open, then insert a cartridge through the ejection port, and push the bolt release to close the bolt. Then, if you want extra rounds in the magazine, you're supposed to remove the magazine, load it, and replace it.

Why would you ever need to do this? I have always simply inserted a loaded magazine, then pulled back and released the charging handle. If I ever want 4+1 in the chamber I then drop the magazine, add the fifth cartridge and replace it. Much easier, in my opinion, than fumbling around trying to chamber a cartridge through the ejection port.

To each his own. I figure they tell you how to load it to show how you would load for a single shot! Jat Huber RSA

Moderator(s), can you please move this to the rifles forum? I inadvertantly put it here (pistols) by mistake.
