Grips on Model 51

Post by DJK »

My model 51 is numbered in the first 7,000. The grips are black but have short-white streaks cast into them (almost like small worms-each about 1/4inch long). This gives them a unique look that might have been an attempt to give them the appearance of being made from some exotic material. I believe these are the original grips and they show a little wear. Can anyone provide information on this?

We have never heard of these grips. Sounds like contaminated material. Jay Huber RSA

Research on grips

I now think that these grips are possibly Franzite. The coloring, although unusual, is not unatractive. The effect is that of black marble. From the serial number the gun was manufactured before 1922. I am trying to find photos and the history of Franzite.
