Model 51

Post by nmljr »

I have an early Model 51 in 380 that is in poor condition as far as looks are concerned but is mechanically very good and all original. I have fired it at the range several times and I had a local gunsmith check it before I fired it. It was my Grandfathers and I inherited it when my Father passed away 2 years ago. I plan to keep it in the family and pass it down to my son. I want to have it reblued but realize it my detract from its value; however I do not think it is worth very much as it is. Any thoughts?

Clean that ol' boy up with some Hoppies and 0000 steel wool. Squirt it clean with brake cleaner or acetone. Then apply a few applications of Van's cold blue. When done wipe on some Rem oil.....

Thanks for the reply..............sounds like a plan. I was tempted to disassemble the gun and use a buffing wheel and Flitz before using the cold blue..

Probably stating the obvious but make sure that the grips are no-where in site when you use that brake cleaner...
