Model 10 Restoration

Post by sparry »

I recently aquired my wife's grandfather's Model 10. At some point in the past, the parts that allow the slide to lock were removed. I am trying to find out what the nomenclature of the parts are and were I might find them. The serial number is 272***. It has two small screws on the right side of the reciever just above the trigger. Currently you can move the forearm back and forth at will. Can anyone help?

I own two functioning Model 10's and have a complete receiver set up for another. They are indeed tough to find parts for but the good news is that there are not a lot of them in the gun. I've seen parts for them pretty regularly on Gunbroker. As for the forearm sliding back and forth at will, make sure the bolt is forward in the receiver. When I first got mine I swore it would not go back together and thought I had broken something. If the bolt is back the arm won't catch it. Once you have caught it be sure and twist/lock the magazine tube back into position or the forearm will just slide out of the bolt again. If you want a complete breakdown of it you can call Remington and they will send you photocopies of the take down manuals complete with nomenclature. Also, in the off chance either of you live in the Midwest near Indiana, there is a gentlemen who sets up a table at the Indy 1500 gunshow that has parts for everything. That's where I get all of my parts from and picked up a full receiver w/bolt for $25.00! Good guy too, very knowledgable. Good luck gentlemen!

Thanks for the info. Waited a long time for a response, but this was worth it. I've taken the gun to several gunsmiths only to be told "I won't work on Remington Model 10s." Do you have the name and contact info for the guy in Indy?

I don't have his name and info but I have a friend who may have one of his cards. I just know him by face and his set up at the show. I'll see what I can find out for you.
