Hi all:
I'm new to this forum and a Remington rifle owner for the first time.
I just got an old Model 572 and an older Model 121.
I think that I've figured out the DOM of the 121. The 121's date code is RXX which I believe makes the DOM to be Nov. 1951. The 121 S/N is 169XXX. It is in fairly good condition for being 57 years old. I might have some questions about this rifle later on after I examine it more carefully and get a chance to shoot it.
My question now is about my Model 572 rifle. The date code on the 572 is LM which I think means the DOM is either Feb. 1965 or 1992.
How do I determine whether it is 1965 or 1992?
By the way, this 572 doesn't have a S/N on it. I was told that serial numbers were not required to be put on rifles until a certain date. Does anyone know what that date is? Apparently, Remington decided not to put S/N's on this model for several years.
I'm curious about another thing also. What does the BDL and ADL mean when referring to the Model 572?
Any help would be appreciated.
Jim
Model 121 & Model 572 W/O S/N?
Re: Model 121 & Model 572 W/O S/N?
Your M/572 was made in 1965. Remington started giving all of their rifles serial numbers in October 1967. Many had serial numbers before that, but #s were added to several of the 22 models then. They were required in 1968. The BDL is a higher grade than the ADL. It has pressed checkering, a higher gloss wood finish and a higher comb on the stock.
Re: Model 121 & Model 572 W/O S/N?
Hi John:
Thank you very much for your info about my Model 572. I really appreciate it. Now I know more about what I actually have. Mine must be an ADL model since it doesn't have the checkering. I've requested the manual from the Remington Arms Website, but so far I haven't got it. They wanted to know the serial number on the manual request page, but I had to leave that blank.
I did a Google search on this model, but couldn't find much good info about it. There were some controversial comments about how good this model is. Some said that it wouldn't cycle .22 Short or .22 Long cartridges very well. I didn't see anything about any .22 LR problems. I plan to shoot .22 LR anyways.
There also were some comments about how hard it is to clean this model. Since it is not a takedown model, I can understand this difficulty. I plan to give mine a thorough cleaning job when I get a chance, and I'll be able to inspect it more closely then also.
I might have some more questions later about my Remingtons.
