Browning A5 mfg. by Remington?

Post by ref1ump »

I have inherited a Browning A5 s/n C6604. Barrel is stamped "St. Louis, Mo." Browning says it was mfg. by Remington between 1940-1947. It's a great shooter, but somewhere along the line someone put a WeaverChoke on the barrel. It can't help the value and it sure is ugly. The choke has a "1/2" marking on it, does anyone know what choke this indicates? Does anyone have more info on mfg. date?
Thanks.

I have an American Browning, and there is a Remington code on the right side of the barrel
just in front of the receiver. This code conforms with Remington's. The letter "J" is 1940, there should be a letter in front of it indicating the month. Since your serial # is C it indicates it is 20 gauge. A is 16 ga. and B is 12 ga.
Sorry I don't know anything about the choke
I hope this helps.

1/2 means that it is a Modified choke.

I have the same shotgun manufactured in 1946, I am looking for a barrel to replace the original one which has a Weaver Choke with Full choke in it, I have been told that a Remington Model 11 20ga Barrel will fit. Browning stated that the only barrels that will fit are the Original American Made Browning Barrels

Would anyone know if the Remington Barrel will fit my Browning??

Scotty, I have an American Browing 20ga with a Model-11 barrel. I don't know if it
is a direct replacement, or was gunsmith fitted. I don't have a M-11 20ga to try.
So it can be done, I'm just not sure how!
