I have a Remington model 17 F grade (1926), it's not in great condition, but hey it's and F grade. Anyway, it's missing the butt stock and I would like to carve one up and cheker it exactly as it once was to keep it as original as possible.
I work part time in for a rifle restoration shop so I'm experienced in such duties and have the tools to do the job correctly. However, we only work with Winchester rifles from 1866 to 1886. Although I have been a model 17 lover for some time my knowledge of checkering patterns and type of wood used on "F" grade guns is limited. I do know they used Circassian walnut back then from time to time
If anyone out there in cyber land can help me out with photos top bottom and both sides for straight grip or round pistol grip stocks it would be much appreciated. Please keeping mind photos of model 10's and 11's E and F grades can be used as well for reference.
Thank you.
Jon.

As far as I know, the only catalogue to picture the Model 17F is Remington Arms Co. Inc. catalogue No. 107 dated 1923. They show up for sale from time to time on ebay. The Model 17D, E and F are all shown with capped full pistol grips, while the A and B have full pistol grips without caps. The F was said to be stocked in the finest Circassian walnut, finished by hand with delicate and elaborate checkering. Gold name plate inlaid in stock.

Jon, does this 17 have the rib or is it a fiels gun ? I have a nice 17 with good stocks that I would consider trading for the one you have IF it has a rib & isn't shot to heck. I'm not concerned about the finish as I will polish the surface down so that I can engrave it & inlay gold critters.
