Model 11 with factory polychoke
How common or rare is a Remington model 11, 16 gauge with a factory installed polychoke. The barrel and gun have matching serial numbers and was made in 1947. I know it's factory installed because the barrel is machined at the end to accept the polychoke plus there's no choke engraving on the barrel. The barrel is normal diameter until it flairs out continuously to mate with the polychoke. Thanks

Rare may be an overstatement, but scarce for sure. The Model 11 and The Sportsman were introduced in 16-gauge in 1931. Factory integral Poly-Chokes were first offered by Remington Arms Co., Inc. in the January 19, 1940, catalog --

Thanks, I failed to mention it was a Sportsman's model so the vintage ad you posted makes sense.
Re: Model 11 with factory polychoke
So, how about an 11-48 barrel with this date stamp & a Poly Choke?
I bought this barrel used for my Mohawk-48, that was made in 1973, its fit perfectly.
But, I'm uncertain about the when or how the Poly Choke came to be on this barrel, I'd like to think its a Remington Install, but above the date stamp the barrel is also stamped "FULL"
Thanks
Mark

The adjustable choke was added after it left the factory. The Full choke was on the original barrel.

Thanks for the reply.Mainspring wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 3:58 pm The adjustable choke was added after it left the factory. The Full choke was on the original barrel.
The choke itself is branded "Poly Choke" the bluing at the base is a perfect match to the barrel, so the whoever that installed the Choke did an amazing job.
The barrel was made near the transition of the M-11 & M-11/48 or to say Dec 1948, so the barrel was around during the days of Remington using the Poly Choke. I think this barrel is an amazing find for its condition, its been well stored, its shows very little signs of any use.
& that's a good thing because the gun (Mohawk-48) was given to me in near New Condition, I don't think its ever been fired (beyond factory testing) this extra barrel & able to dial it to Modified adds more versatility to the gun, & the barrel matches the condition of the gun to be 25yrs older than the gun.

A 20-gauge Model 11 factory Poly-Choke --
Re: Model 11 with factory polychoke
Thanks for posting the image, it appears that the base for the poly-choke is formed at the muzzle of the barrel, then the rest of the choke assembly is mounted to that, nice. The one on mine then is for sure an added addition due to its base is more part of the choke & not the barrel that is to say, the metal of the barrel doesn't flow (ramp) up to the base, it goes into it. Thanks again.

So, this is what an aftermarket added Poly—Choke looks like.

This is from a Model 31, so it doesn't have the raised sight bead needed on the Model 11/The Sportsman.
