Researching a 1878 New Model 32 cal Conversion

Post by agentmeade »

I am at a loss about this oldie as I am a 1911A1 Remington collector so I need some help. This little pocket pistol belongs to my neighbor who would like to sell it so any value would be appreciated. It is missing a few internal parts as the cylinder will not revolve and will not lock up.
It appears to have a been a percussion converted to a cartridge in .32 caliber. The barrel is 3 1/2" with 21639 under loading lever . On top of barrel patent dates Sept 14, 1858 , March 12, 1868 E. Remington & Sons Ilion, New York USA New Model . Overall pistol length is 8" from tip of barrel to end of grip.
Of course the nipples have been removed ( I assumed it was nipple fired ) and a removable plate added to accommodate the hammer to contact the cartridge.
Thank You.

This gun is a New Model Pocket percussion revolver of which around 25,000 units were produced from 1865 to 1873. The value of the converted version is less than the original percussion one.

According to the 2019 edition of the Blue Book of Antique American Firearms and Values, the value of a percussion version in good condition is estimated around $600. So, your neighbor's converted version with missing internal parts is worth much less.
