Help identifying shotgun (I believe).
Help identifying shotgun (I believe).
I've done a little research on google and a few auction sites which have led me to believe that it's a Remington from the 1860's, but I was curious if that were true and also what model it might be.

I also have this shotgun and it is shown in 1870s remington catalogs.seems to be very little info available and I don't know why they did not mark them anywhere when they marked unfinished barrels and locks.if i remember correct they sold for $8.00 and the rolling block shotgun was about $20.00

Might post this in the section just below which is for Remington Shotguns Pre 1899. More shotgun guys will see it there.rav53 wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:54 pm I also have this shotgun and it is shown in 1870s remington catalogs.seems to be very little info available and I don't know why they did not mark them anywhere when they marked unfinished barrels and locks.if i remember correct they sold for $8.00 and the rolling block shotgun was about $20.00

The Remington Collector's Journal, 3rd Quarter 2020, Mike Alsop's article on these guns, page 26 & 27.

That's definitely the Remington single barrel percussion shotgun...they used surplus Civil War musket barrels; cut-down and bored out. The underside of the barrel may still show a "P" proof mark or inspectors' initials. When I showed mine to my brother, he said, "No wonder Remington did not put their name on it!"
