Hello all!
New member with a relatively recent purchase of a 1941 Model 81 in 35 Rem.
I tried to access The Great Model 8 & 81 site but seems to be shut down (unless it's an issue on my end). I have a rather unusual question since my couple hours of Google have yielded no results. So I'm particular about my firearms and broke this thing down to every screw, spring, etc. I'm pretty good with getting everything apart and together with firearms but ran into a problem with this one.
Inside the barrel jacket around the barrel jacket plug, there is corrosion - a good bit of it from what I see. I removed the barrel jacket screw but am not one to start banging away on things and I'd like to get the jacket plug out to remedy the corrosion.
Anyone have any experience with how these barrel jacket plugs are affixed in the jacket? I did tap on it a bit with an aluminum rod without the screw and no movement - not sure if it's corroded in place or if the factory secured them some other way that I should absolutely not try to remove.
It's a shot in the dark but maybe one of you fine folks have some experience or recommendation to get it out.
Thanks for your consideration!! TJ

I've never had need to remove that particular part. My guess is that it is not supposed to be removed, the screw might only be to position the Plug while a permanent attachment is made.

Thanks for the response. Yes I was starting to think that as well. On the outside there aren't any pinned areas or places it looks like it was welded in. Maybe its a press fit (or somehow milled into it) and I shouldn't mess with it. Looks like I'll need to fix the corrosion with it in there
