I have inherited my grandfathers model 11 sportsman, it’s stamped property of us navy on receiver and barrel. I am seeing a lot of info about these being used as aerial training guns etc. but this one seems to have different markings. Regardless of value I am planning to take it to Arts gun shop for a restoration within the next couple of weeks.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Model 11 Sportsman questions
If this actually a military firearm then 'restoration' will likely ruin the collector value, originality is always preferred.
This might be military but I don't think this one was used for aerial training.

Typically the Mil Gun had a Grenade, aka Bomb marking, not a wildlife roll mark. I'd proceed with the renovation... nice wood !

Re: Model 11 Sportsman questions
It is marked PROPERTY U.S.NAVY, I would lean towards recreational use instead of combat military use.

Re: Model 11 Sportsman questions
If I'm reading that serial number correctly, 401361, that receiver was put in work during December 1937. Does the barrel have the same serial number. That forearm wood looks like that used on the later wartime "Military Finish" guns --
but the rest of the gun looks like a sporting model.
