Remington 721 Identification Challenge

Post by Happy Camper »

To all,

I have looked at the following page https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/ and am having no luck pinning this rifle down. Would you all be so kind as to decipher the markings?

In as much as this legend infers:

This rifle is marked <strange symbol> <C - Month?> <X - Again, month?> <X - Year?> <3 - Assembly?>

Or am I looking at XX – 1951? Does this seem reasonable given such a high serial number of 172975 ?

April 1951 lines up with both the barrel date code and the serial number.

Thank you for responding. Do you have any insight as to what the fancy wave 'final inspector' cartouche is exactly? Does this refer to a specific individual?

Yes, that would be the inspectors "mark", unique to them.
