Remington side by side w/ hammer

Post by jconwell »

Received a shotgun from my grandfather which belonged to his grandfather. I'm making it into a display and want to include the manufacture date. There is a 5 digit number under the barrel, on the underside of the wooden piece under the barrel 79353 as well as 267. I'm having difficulty finding anything predating 1920. Any help is appreciated.

Would be helpful to have photos but if the SN you provided is correct you have a Model 1889 which first saw service in 1897. The 1889 was produced from 1889 until 1910.

The barrel should be stamped Remington Arms rather than E. Remington as the company was reorganized in 1888 after bankruptcy.
