Obsolete Caliber Brass & Bullets / .25, .30, .32, & .35 Remington

Post by nambujim »

This posting is really for the Model 14 & 141 owners, to a far less degree for the Model 8/81 owners, the latter of which don't suffer from their brass being beat to hell from the loading system, and can use a variety of bullet configurations.

For those of us that have some "age" on us we got used to being able to walk into a gun shop or gun show and buy anything we needed at a good & fair price, that came to an abrupt end several years ago. The price/availability of primers went through the roof, Remington quit making .30 Remington brass (in favor of some stupid PPC round based on the .30 Remington), and KFC stopped selling Hot Wings. The point I'm making is to Model 14 owners and that is the stuff you need to make your rifle function isn't going to be around forever, and in the case of RN bullets maybe sooner than you think.

Lets start with the .25 Remington, about the only maker for the 117g RN bullet is Hornady and they make like one run a year! The .30 Remington status is better because there a like a billion 30-30's out there but the only 170gr RN bullet you can find is the very expensive Nosler Partition. I use the .323 Hornady (8MM) for the .32 Remington, they are far more available than the .321 variety but don't know how long that will last. I just don't know what to think about the .35 Remington but its impossible to buy a box of cartridges in RN configuration and the 200gr Hornady bullets are still available but again they make a run once a year.

My point here is "if I were you" I would think about picking up a box or two of my favorite RN caliber bullet "just in case" because manufacturers have a habit of not telling us they are going to discontinue our favorite item.

Something to think about!

Good suggestion sir!

I’ve been shooting a 30 Rem for 25 years and have acquired a great deal of brass and factory ammo. I think I have 22 boxes of factory ammo currently. I try to buy 32 Rem brass when possible and affordable. I buy Hornady or Speer 358” and .321” bullets when I see them. I have a 8, 14, two 81’s and a 141 in 30, a 141 and 81 in 32, and one lonely early 141 in 35. In all honesty, I probably have enough components to last for many many years, but I do shoot my Remingtons at on the regular. Gotta keep them fed. And someday I will add a 25 REM to the mix.
