Remington model760 carrier spring
Hi,I have a Remington 760 manufactured in feb. 1954. I took it apart to clean it and the bolt carrier has no carrier spring in it. I did some research and found out that the older ones didn’t have one. I’d like to know if my 760 is supposed to have one or not , my question is what year did Remington start putting carrier springs in. Some schematics show no carrier spring and others show a carrier spring but no date when Remington started adding the spring. And information would be greatly appreciated

I don't think I've ever seen a date or serial number associated with the change. If your 760 is supposed to have the part then adding the part will not be an issue. If it is not supposed to have the part then adding it will likely cause a malfunction.

Brownells book Encyclopedia of Modern Firearms, first published in 1959, does not list the bolt carrier spring. Based on this I would say your 1954 M760 is not supposed to have that part.
