Model 14 that does not feed.

One possibility that may be found.... You know how to take down the rifle into two parts. Do so. Hold the wrist of the buttstock so that the trigger in that section is down as it would be when you are shooting. Look above the trigger a little to the front of the plate and you will see a part maybe an inch long that is attached to the trigger guard plate and pivots to the front and back (it is pivoted at the bottom of the part and the rest of the part swings back and forth). The tip of this part has to be BACK when you re-assemble the rifle. It is easily tipped forward and not noticed and then the rifle will not feed. This little part that pivots activates the cartridge elevator and lifts the cartridge in line with the chamber. Even when all is put together correctly, you can still get this rifle not to chamber by not pumping the slide back far enough. You don't have to slam it back, just pump it firmly and back all the way. I be this is what is wrong. If that little part is not facing back, the cartridge will feed out of the tube and lay in the bottom of the action and go nowhere. When I bought my Model 14 last week it was put together wrong and the action jammed open when I pumped it all the way open. Obviously, this was not correct and I really studied this action and figured out what was wrong. I load two different cast bullets to get a cartridge length of 2.57 inches, and both feed as fast as I pump the action. I believe this is a bit short of maximum. Anyway, just a thought.

Model 14 feeding...

Post by Greg T »

Hello! I have a reproduction of a factory repair manual coming for the Model 14/141. It is probably going to be better than a week yet before it arrives as I won it off eBay. I will look it over and if it appears that it may be any help to you, I will loan it out to you to make use of with this problem. You don't know how I prayed that mine would feed the cast lead stuff. I don't like using jacketed bullets in these things as I think the for more than a little shooting, it really wears on them. another thought: Could you have a weak magazine spring? I had to open the door on the front of the tube and pull the spring and follower out to clean them up. The follower would not move more than two inches and then it stuck. I oiled it up a bit and now it moves real nice. Take a peek at that once!

Hello Noel! Just wanted to let you know that I got the Remington Model 14/141 repair manual today and I copied the pages. It is a regular factory manual that I recall from years ago (a reprint of course). I will get your copy out by tomorrow's mail. Don't know how long it will take to get to Alberta, but let me know when you get it if you would! My email is:

Good Luck!
