Since your shotgun has a military receiver and not a Sporting Rifle receiver, it's one of those Remington built from leftover military Rolling Block rifles. These variations used the milsurp actions, and buttstocks, and had the wider/thicker tangs, and lower tang was equal length to top tang. You can also see where the sling swivel hole in the trigger guard was filled with a pin.
I believe Remington referred to these as #1 and #2 shotguns, and the military reworks were the #2. No idea of a year, and all I can say for sure is they stopped making them sometime in the 1890's.

Hi marlinman 93,
Do you know if these were made Pre or post 1888?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Rolling Block Sporting Shotgun
Everything I've seen states both. Supposedly from sometime in the 1870's to around 1893 is what I've seen mentioned.aardq wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 1:22 am Hi marlinman 93,
