Model 25 issues

Post by CGsmith »

I'm working on a model 25 in 25 Remington. The issue is that when the rifle is cocked and safety is switched to safe, then the slide actuated, the bolt gets stuck to the rear. At this point the safety selector cannot move and the rifle needs to be partially disassembled to get unstuck. When the safety selector is in fire all works as normal. Any suggestions? I'm having a difficult time finding info about this firearm. Thanks in advance

I have some info but not the rifle.

Proceed carefully as parts will probably be difficult to come by. I'm not sure if the action is supposed to cycle with the safety on, maybe another owner will chime in on the topic. Cycling the action with the safety on is a more modern function with some models.

I would start with a good cleaning, you may need to scrape the crud away. Be on the lookout for replacement parts and/or repaired parts.

The hole for the Safety Spring and Safety Plunger might be drilled all the way thru the Trigger Guard. The Safety Plunger might be protruding and binding on the Main Spring. As the Breech Block moves to the rear it pushes against the Hammer which compresses the Main Spring.

I was wandering about the possibility of the rifle not intending to be cycled when in safety. Hopefully someone else will verify that. Thanks

I thought the Model 25 came only in .25-20 and .32-20. https://www.remarms.com/sites/default/f ... 201923.pdf

Here is a pic. Everything resembles a model 25, maybe I'm wrong?

So it appears I have a model 14 instead of model 25. Anyone have any thoughts on the issue at hand.

Jim will be along sooner or later, what he doesn't know about a 14 or 141 ain't worth knowing. As to working on a 25, be glad your not as it appears no one works on them or even has any idea where to start .
