Need some help identifying a Remington SXS

Post by Chipper »

Hello, I have my wife's grandfather's old Remington and I'm trying to find out some info, if anyone can help. It's stamped Remington Arms Co on the side and in-between the barrels it says the same with Ilion,NY added...serial number 328698 stamped on trigger guard and under wood for handle. Under the forhandle the barrels are stamped on both sides with what looks like a $ followed by letter KF6. I'll try and post a couple pics. Any info on model yr, possible grade would be appreciated. I think it's 12g but not positive. Thank you

You have a Model 1900 K grade S/S which left the factory in 1902. From the pictures it appears to be in excellent condition with much color case hardening still visible.

The 1900 K grade was offered in four versions:

K - Remington steel barrels with extractors - least costly
KE - as above with ejectors
KD - Damascus barrels with extractors
KED - as above with ejectors - most costly

The Model 1900 is less costly version of the Model 1894 with the major difference being forearm attachment method and quality of finish. Many parts will interchange. The 1894 was offered in grades A - E with finish, fit and cost increasing greatly as grade progressed.
