Right-side Barrel Markings

I just purchased an early model Remington 700 that is either a 1964 model or 1991 (it has "42" stamped next to manufacture code though). What I am really curious about is the markings on the right side of the barrel. I has a "9" sideways in a triangle with the point facing down the barrel, an "RE(not sure)" encircled, and what looks like an iron cross stamped on the right side of the barrel. Any ideas or information would be appreciated.
