1858 Verification help

Post by dpress68 »

Hi,

Remington 1858 serial 23014 or 28014... second digit is hard to discern.

Any information on this and if its legitimate would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Hello Doug,
You did not mention the caliber but I suppose it's a .44 caliber.

Your New-Model Army is suppose to be made in may 1863 (#23014) or in july 1863 (#28014).
Did you check the serial numbers also on ;
- the left grip frame, under the panel (and sometimes on the two panels grip).
- the rear face of the cylinder (sometimes).
- the trigger guard tab.

Your revolver looks to have the german silver cone front sight..?
Do you see some military markings?

Hello,

Just a note, that the only time that the serial number is on the cylinder, is because there was some hand fitting of the cylinder. The same applies to the serial number being on the inside of the grips.
