Rolling Block Chambering Assistance

Post by BBerg »

Recently purchased what I believe to be a #1 Rolling Block, chambered in 43 Spanish. The seller said the chambering was unknown to him. Any help confirming or correcting my assumption would be greatly appreciated. It appears to be same exact rifle (pictures, et al) as the one posted on Feb. 2, 2022 by “Pathfinder”. Again, I believe the rifle is a Rolling Block Model 1, chambered in .43 Spanish but I would like the experts to offer an opinion as well. The cast broke after the shoulder but I think I have enough information as noted in the diagram below for an opinion to be rendered. Some of the measurements are the best I can determine, particularly the shoulder length. Thanks in Advance - BBerg
Basic Information
Overall Length 50.5"
Barrel Length 35.125"
Muzzle .436"
Markings found.
1) Upper and lower tang – 11387 (understand these are for assembly purposes, not a serial number)
2) Barrel marking (left side) just before the receiver - B

Hi There,

Your chamber dimensions are consistent with 43 Spanish.
From the tang markings, it sounds like a fourth type frame
Flat sided.

To be absolutely sure it is a No. 1, measure the thickness of
the frame. It should be somewhere around 1.320" +/- .010"

Good Luck!

If you can reload, you can get brass from 'track of the wolf.'

https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/233/1

They are expensive at $3.99 each but it is good brass and has the
correct headstamp.

Good Luck!

Thanks much, my sons reload and are just waiting on me to verify everything for them to start gathering the supplies. I saw the casings on the Track of the Wolf website.

Thanks much, BBerger

Purchased a few .43 Spanish casings and they slide in easily, seem to fit like a glove with no force or pressure applied and seat fully. The casings are very close to the chamber cast when held side by side. So, I'm convinced it is a Rolling Block Model #1 chambered for .43 Spanish cartridges. If I missed something, please let me know.

Thanks to those who helped in this endeavor. BBerg
