model 11 12ga having trouble cycling

I just took my model 11 12ga out to the range today and it would not eject the spent round in either light or heavy configuration. I did set it up as it was when I bought it which is set up opposite of the light load setting. Brass ring by the receiver and the steel ring on top by the barrel. It did cycle in that configuration, but I don't know how goo it is for the gun to be used like that. I was shooting target load from both Winchester and Herter's 1180fps. This is a photo of how it was set up when I got it and is the set up that worked. If anyone knows if this set up is ok or of a way to fix the none cycling issue any help is appreciated.
