Model 600 question

Post by thebigdog »

I believe that I read somewhere that the first Model 600 Magnums were stocked in walnut. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Remington Model 600 Magnum

Same as model 600, except calibers 6.5 mm Mag and 350 Remington Mag.

4 shot magazine, special magnum type barrel with Racket for scope backup, laminated walnut stock and beech stock with recoil pad, QD swivels and sling: weight about 6.5 lbs. Made 1965 - 1967

laminate stocks

I've heard that the 1st few were in standard walnut stocks also. The story goes, the walnut stocks were cracking at the rear of the action on the top, hence the laminate was used. BUT, I've never seen a magnum in a walnut stock and never seen a cracked stock eather. True or untrue? Who knows.
