Hello,
My son recently acquired this 12ga in what appears to be grade 1, but in a condition I wouldn’t expect to find for its age. Story has it that great grandpa bought it new and while staying in the family passed through three generations of closets. Can anyone shed an opinion on what this was and how collectible it is? Hopefully photos are attached.
Thanks,
Tom

Last try, as it doesn’t seem to be working for me with attaching pics. Tried my best.

The grade of '89s is stamped across from the SN on the water table. The '89 was offered off-the-shelf in three grades -- #1 - decarbonized steel barrels, #2 - twist steel and #3 - Damascus steel barrels. In addition the wood quality improved as the grades progressed. None of these grades had any engraving. Grades 4 and higher were available by special order.
It would help if you were to provide the SN in addition to photos.
