Beals Navy conversion

Post by jdzara »

Hi,
I have a question about a Navy Beals converted to .38 CF cartridge.
The serial # is 14400on both the barrel and frame. the number 158
is also stamped near both serial numbers. I guess that 158 was the conversion number. However the trigger guard is stamped 158 not
14400 0r 400. On my nonconverted remingtons the trigger guard matches the S/N, any comment?

Your Gun is probably a Navy contract conversion of a Beals Navy made in 1862. The conversion parts number was 158 and the reason it appears on the trigger guard is that the trigger guard was probably damaged and replaced at time of conversion. Jay Huber RSA
