1894 AE forend photo request

If you have a photo of the forend from a Grade AE 1894 that shows the screw heads both under and outside I would appreciate seeing one. I wish to check the finish on my gun against one that is in top condition.

Thanks. Has the head on the rear screw been blued, or did it come blued as in the photo?

I believe blued screw heads are correct.

I pulled the forearms on my two highest original condition guns, CEO and DEO and on one that little wood screw is color case hardened and the other blued like this gun?!? On my only AE-Grade, the gun my Father shot for over forty years, that little wood screw is replaced by a machine screw and escutcheon. Same on my FE-Grade Trap Gun.

I pulled the forearms on my two highest original condition guns, CEO and DEO and on one that little wood screw is color case hardened and the other blued like this gun?!? On my only AE-Grade, the gun my Father shot for over forty years, that little wood screw is replaced by a machine screw and escutcheon. Same on my FE-Grade Trap Gun.

Thanks. This is the information I was looking to find. On my AE, the wood screw has also been replaced with a thought screw and escutcheon. Nicely done, but likely not original. Finish and color as with the barrel latch.

AE from 1899

The machine screw and escutcheon were a repair my Father made to his gun in his late years of using it. Charles Semmer shows two similar repairs at the bottom of page 224 of his book that I'm sure were done many years after the guns left Ilion.

As the original is a wood screw I presume that it pulls away with use.

Another question. I attempted to remove the iron assembly, got some way into it but stopped due to resistance sliding it back and in lifting it out. Does the front end latch need to be removed or released by loosening the two small machine screws up front?
