Remington Mod.11 question

Post by coldwar_marine »

Hello, I am new to the group and I recently acquired a Model 11, 12 GA semi automatic. The shotgun was well taken care of. It has a "US" and a bomb insignia then "Military Finish" on the top left side. It also has a Cutts flash suppressor. The story behind this shotgun is that it was used in the Vietnam War. Serial Number is on the left bottom side 479247. Can anyone give me some information based on the serial number? When was it manufactured and if in fact it could of been used in the Vietnam War. The previous owner was a career 30 year Marine who did seven tours in Vietnam. Yes, seven tours!

The Model 11 receiver with serial number 479247 was put in work between June 30, 1942, (469363) and Aug 1, 1943, when the reached 499999. They then jumped serial numbers to 700000 and continued. With the Cutts Compensator with a spreader tube it was much more likely used as a skeet gun during WW-II as part of the training of aerial gunners. Is there a choke marking on the left side of the barrel?

Sorry not sure why I came out upside down. The FJA stamp is present.

I agree with Researcher. It's probably a training shotgun. If it was a combat shotgun it would have a shorter barrel. Is the barrel serial numbered to the receiver?

Researcher do you know of any records or information available regarding the
Military Model 11 and Sportsman? I'm curious about mine.

Special Services still had these available for loan out into at least the early '60s. My buddy's Dad was a Naval Captain and we checked out a couple several times.
What could have happened... did.
