I have a new model Remington 1858.
Inherited from my grandfather of course.
Looks like matching L in the cylinder, trigger guard and frame. Serial# 73783.
Other than that I don't know much about it.
Maybe one of you experts know when it was made. Possibly where it would have been issued?
It's been around a while.

The L mark could be military acceptance marks, but they are in unusual positions. There doesn't appear to be the final acceptance mark, the oval cartouche in the left grip which indicates military use, but the grips could have been replaced. Bottom line is that the best that can be said is that it's probably civilian but we can't be sure.
