This gun and hang-tag was posted in the "Other Fine Doubles" section on the Parker Gun Collectors Association web site. I thought some of the faithful here would like to see it as well.
From Charles Semmer's serial number chronology, which was produced by estimating from surviving shipping records, this gun would be of 1892 vintage. The 1890 date given on the back of the hang-tag is quite plausible. The fact that the targeting information on the hang-tag gives loading information supports the 1890 date. Union Metallic Cartridge Co. began offering factory loaded paper shotgun shells in 1891. Later hang-tags show targeting done with UMC factory shells and loading data was moved to the back of the hang-tags.

The back of the tag reads like a mini-Hemmingway story!

The first owner of the gun must be the same John Edward Snapp who died in 1932 at age 80 and is buried in the St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery at Hayfield, Frederick County, Virginia. The brief obituary posted on Findagrave.com says he was a carpenter, which could explain how he had the skill to make a butt stock for the gun.
