I have my Granddads Rem Mdl 1900 S/S 12 ga... Has a recently broken top / break -open spring. I have seen only one U-Tube on how to replace, by a young man who was trying hard to help.. But missing some important tips it seem.
Anyone have any good links or ? on how to do this replacement task?
Can still shoot it, but a little scary holding the lever closed... and my kids ( adults) say "NO WAY"

It's been awhile but I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to compress the spring and slip it in place. As I recall the trick is to compress it while still being able to slip the tit into the hole in the tang. I have since obtained a cute ~3" pair of vice grips that might work better but I hope I don't have to use it.
Better yet - a smith shouldn't charge too much since you have it torn down.
