remington 722 grades

Post by Don »

I have recently seen 2 722's in .222 rem with scroll engraved floorplates, similar to a Browning safari grade. They had plain(non checkered) stocks, although one did have nicely figured walnut. My first assumption is that they were engraved after they left the factory, but after seeing two with identical engraving, I thought there might be a slim chance it was factory work. They were both early 1950's guns. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I believe the 722's were available as 722, 722A ,and 722P . I would assume the 722P would be a premier grade which may have had some scroll work adorning the Rifle and may account for the 2 specimines you have encountered . I have only seen 722's in the 722 and 722A configuations with the "A" model having a checkered stock and alittle better wood .
