Old Rolling Block
Old Rolling Block
I own an old military rolling block rifle. It is three banded with a bayonet. On top of the receiver it is stamped "US", two inches forward of that is the number "61" It is in fairly good shape with a sling. It was given to me by my father fifty years ago. I need some info on this. What caliber, history or any other info I can get. Anly help would be appreciated. Skipp

Can you provide some more info: what is the barrel length? Are there any markings on the top tang that extends back from the frame/receiver? Just where is the "US" marking stamped? This detailed info will help to identify it.

Skip,
I echo Ed's reply to you. Please respond with top tang info (does the last entry in the bottom line begin with 1866, 1868 or 1874? What stamp marking is on the barrel bands (US or crown)? Caliber (.43 or .50)? Any other markings?
